The rehearsal dinner outfit is rarely a main thought for a busy bride who has her dress, guests, and plenty of other things to think about. However, looking stunning at this event is still important, and with that in mind check out the following handy bridal guide to rehearsal dinner fashion.

Type Of Event

The type of rehearsal dinner you’re throwing indicates what attire is best. The general rule is that the rehearsal dinner should not be more formal than the wedding. With that in mind, are you throwing a formal dinner? Clam bake? Having a beer-and-wings event at your favorite bar? Going the country club route? A cocktail dress works for more formal events, while pretty much anything you want is fine for casual affairs. Heck, you could probably get away with a tank top and jean shorts if your dinner is at a tiki bar or something similar.

Showing A Different Side

Showing a different side of yourself at the rehearsal dinner is a recommendation you might want to consider. For example, if your wedding dress is super-traditional, go for a contemporary rehearsal dinner frock. If the wedding gown doesn’t show a lot of skin, feel free to choose a more revealing dinner dress.

Trendy Or Not?

Being trendy is fine, however keep in mind overdoing the trendiness might make you cringe when looking at photos years from now. Stick to classic versions of the trends, such as a simple shift dress with a sweater around your shoulders or a tank-style dress. The little black dress is another option that never, ever goes out of style. You may also want to experiment with color, such as a pastel or hot pink number.

Accessories

Rehearsal dinner accessories can also be bolder, especially if your dress is more traditional. Save the pearls and diamonds for your wedding day and opt for chunky costume jewelry if it feels right. Go for comfortable heels or flats–after all, you’ll be wearing heels all day for your wedding.
