5 Ways to Get Your Groom Involved in the Wedding Planning

To succeed as a married couple, it’s important to develop good communication, teamwork, patience, and trust. All these characteristics are honed from the time you start dating, but all of the things you’ve learned will be tested once you are engaged and planning the wedding.

Planning a wedding is an enormous task that involves a lot of decision making. By working as a couple, you can avoid putting the burden on just the bride and learn how to compromise with each other. If you want your groom to become more involved, here are a few tips on how to get him to be more enthusiastic about preparing for your big day.

  1. Be open to his opinions: Grooms sometimes find themselves at a loss amidst all the planning and details that need to be hashed out before the wedding. Making sure that your groom is involved from the start will make him feel that his opinions are valued. It gives the assurance that you are truly asking to know what he thinks and not just for the sake of. Your groom can have a lot of wonderful ideas that will make your day extra special. You might be surprised with the unexpected fun twists he might come up with.
  2. Work on his to do list: Creating a to-do list makes it easier for both the bride and groom to keep track of all the things they have to check off. Help your groom organize his tasks and support him as he accomplishes each of them. For example, wedding planners and vendors usually contact the bride; help your groom accomplish the tasks that need collaboration with these providers by connecting them.
  3. Tap into his skills: It takes a village, and a host of third party providers, to plan a wedding. With a number of parts you need to get together, you need all the help you can get. Your groom may have incredible skills to make preparing for your big day less taxing. Employ his skills whether it be at organizing, giving input on who should not sit next to who, or organizing a kick ass booze booth.
  4. Schedule activities you can do as a couple: Wedding planning can be another bonding moment for you and your partner. Identify the things that you will enjoy together. It can be picking out thank you gifts for the groomsmen together, going on a mini vacation to your out of town wedding destination, or something simple like competing for who can stuff the most number of wedding invitations inside the envelopes.
  5. Let him choose his own entourage: Your groom, too, would want to share this special day with the people who matter the most to him. Choosing his own entourage is just as important to him as you choosing your own bridesmaids. Talking about the people whom he wants to be by his side on your special day can also bring out interesting stories and happy memories about the people close to him.
