surprise vow renewal ceremony for parents 25th wedding anniversary
Hi, my name is Audry. My parents will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary on July 25th. My two sisters and I are planning a reception type party for them. We've invited our family and friends. We are having it catered and getting a cake made for it. My parents were married at the justice of the peace, so they never got a real wedding or reception. We would like to have a pastor come out to the house where this will all take place so that our parents could renew their vows with close family and friends around. I'm having trouble finding a pastor or someone to come to the house for us. My parents don't have a clue about any of this so it will be a surprise to them both. I live in Jonesboro, Georgia. If you know of anyone to help us out with renewing their vows, I would love to know or get some information from you.
Audry

I would not recommend surprising your parents with a vow renewal service. This is something that is very personal and, frankly, you just can't be sure if they would want this or not. A vow renewal should be decided on by the couple. If they agree then you can go ahead and begin the planning. The surprise could be the part to follow.
No one from the clergy needs to perform a wedding vow renewal since it has no legal nor religious ties but if your parents would like to have their marriage blessed by a member of the clergy then it will depend on your religion if you can get someone to come out to do this at your home. Catholic priests generally cannot officiate a wedding ceremony unless inside of a church. Check with the church your parents regularly attend.
Again, you should really discuss this with your parents since you, and your parents, could wind up being embarassed if this isn't something they both want.
If you want to surprise them then just the anniversary party will suffice.
