ring exchange - is there anything other than rings?

My parents are renewing their vows for their 30th wedding anniversary. My dad has planned a small wedding ceremony but he wasn't sure about what to do for the ring exchange. My mom has so much jewelry that she never wears it all and they both recently purchased new wedding bands. Do you have any ideas of an alternative gift to exchange that would be meaningful?

What about exchanging scrolls upon which they have each written all the things they are most grateful for in their spouse....that would include attributes and special moments throughout the years where they most appreciated their spouse and his/her efforts? I can't think of anything more meaningful.

In terms of a material gift with meaning, lockets or other tokens with special inscriptions are lovely. I know of one man who received a watch from his wife that said, "My love, my friend, my life." That said it all! When I heard of the gift, I turned it into their ring vow: "With this ring, I give you my love, my friendship, my life."

It is hard to say not knowing your parents. If they have a strong religious belief they could exchange a religious symbol. I wish your parents the best and I hope that they are blessed with many more years of marriage. Bob
