confused about renewal of vows etiquette

My sister got married recently with a very small ceremony of both sides of parents, and a pastor only attending.

She called me and asked me to be her maid of honor in the spring when they have wedding to renew their vows. Since I have never heard of anyone doing this before, I am confused as to if I am called a "maid of honor" at the ceremony, and what would the terms be for the other 2 girls she will have in her wedding party? Also, calling this a "wedding" seems inappropriate since she is already married.

Is she entitled to a bridal shower or bachlorette party since she is already married? I welcome your thoughts. Thank you

You're correct; your sister is already married and so this service she will be having would either be called a vow renewal or a blessing of their marriage (if done in the church). A vow renewal doesn't require any attendants nor is it a gift giving event, so there would be no pre-wedding parties like showers and certainly no bachelorette party since she is already married and "having one last night of being a single woman" really doesn't apply here.

Please review our page on vow renewal etiquette to discover exactly what is considered to be proper. Perhaps you could share this information with your sister.
