Is 5 years too soon to renew wedding vows?
We had a big wedding the first time, but it wasn't right for us. The wedding took on a life of it's own and wasn't really about us. We have also been through a lot since getting married. For these two reasons, I would like to renew our wedding vows for our 5 year anniversary with only my husband and I and our 2 children present. We were thinking of having a vow renewal ceremony in Jamaica where we had our honeymoon. Is 5 years too soon? I want to do something simple and meaningful to reaffirm our love and commitment to each other.

Traditionally, married couples would have waited until a major anniversary like the silver (25th wedding anniversary) to renew their vows but these days couples are choosing to renew at varying intervals and to celebrate certain milestones. So yes, go ahead and renew your vows for your 5th wedding anniversary, to celebrate coming through those hard times you mentioned.
Jamaica sounds like a beautiful place to have such a destination wedding. Enjoy!
