Marrying before deployment?

Hello..My fiancee is being deployed to Iraq in Jan. and we would like to marry before then. The issue is time! This is my 2nd marriage and his 3rd. My first marriage was done in a courthouse and I want to marry in a church this time. I'm not sure however if I will have time to plan the wedding that I want in less than 3 months. Some friends have suggested the courthouse wedding, for official purposes, and a traditional wedding when he returns. I think that would be a renewal of vows and was wondering IF I could still have the bridesmaids and the wedding dress without seeming silly. I have also tossed around the idea of having a small church ceremony with just the cake reception afterward, and then having a huge reception/welcome home party when he returns. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
