How much should I invest in the engagement ring?

First allow me to say that this is a gift like any other gift you might buy for a loved one. The gift should be purchased, not by the price tag, but with the recipient in mind. The diamond industry claims a ring should cost you two months salary. Remember though that they are selling rings. If you want to go along with that, fine, but don't spend money just for the sake of spending money. If you see the a really unique ring, one tyour fiance is sure to love, but its price is less that two months of your salary, so what? I say, buy with your heart and mind...not your wallet. If, however, you are obsessed with tradition, use the "two-months-salary rule" as your guide.
