Red dress appropriate for a second wedding
My fiance and I are getting married (each for the second time), in late September. The ceremony will be held in a gazebo at the top of cliffs that over look the ocean. The wedding time is early afternoon with cocktails and an early dinner following. I love the color red and look stunning in red and diamonds! My question though... will a red sheath style wedding dress be to much for this time of day/year and venue? Thanks, Angie

Dear Looks good in Red, It seems as though your wedding will be semi-formal, which means cocktail attire. I think that your dress will be perfect. Plus, the style seems perfect for the location. Hopefully you won't be too cold with the ocean breezes :) Best wishes, Rebecca Black, Etiquette Consultant Etiquette Now http://www.etiquettenow.com

Rebecca, Thank you for your response. However... I went wedding dress shopping today. My intentions were just to look at colors and styles. I took my mother with me and for fun and dress up... I tried on an ivory Oleg Cassini Mikado gown. I started crying and my mother was speechless. I wore the dress around the store for nearly two hours. Adding a veil for the ceremony, a shawl for the long stroll on the beach, a tiara, and heels. By the time we had the whole ensemble I knew it was the one. I am still overwhelmed with emotion just thinking about it and knowing it is hanging in my closet. So, what was supposed to be an informal event has now turned formal. Without a doubt... I am a princess!! Thanks again! ~Angie

Being a princess for a day is a wonderful experience. The dress sounds as if it is breathtaking. Veils are typically thought to be for the first time bride however the rules have relaxed somewhat. If this veil completely covers your face (called a blusher), the blusher is for the first time bride--innocense. You can just wear it back off of your face if the tiara will sit correctly on it. So many women are bending this etiquette rule these days and some people may not even notice. I just thought you should know because I wouldn't want you to be embarrassed if someone said something about it on your wedding day. Thank you for the advice Rebecca. I debated about the veil when I tried if on. Knowing I had read somewhere it was not appropriate for a second wedding. I discussed it with the store manager and she explained about the blusher, which was not the type of veil I was looking at. I have purchased a fingertip veil I guess the call it and a tiara. My first wedding, I wore an inexpensive dress much like one would wear to church on Sundays... albeit nothing wrong with that. It just felt so wonderful to be in the gown I purchased... veil and all. ~Angie
