Do I need an annulment to remarry in the Catholic church?
I was married in the Catholic Church. My husband divorced me and married outside the Church to another person. According to the Church's teachings (unless I apply for and receive an anullment) the Church does not recognize the civil divorce or his remarriage and I am not to remarry. Is this correct? Do I need an annulment to remarry in the Catholic church?

The Catholic church does not recognize a civil divorce, therefore, it would not recognize his remarriage. In order to get remarried in the Roman Catholic church you are correct you would need an annulment. God Bless

As Deacon Bob stated, you will need an annulment in order to remarry in the Catholic Church. Although it can be an emotional process, it can also be very healing as you uncover what went wrong in your previous marriage. It must have hurt you deeply when your husband divorced you. The annulment questions can be a valuable aid in dealing with emotional scars of the past. A compassionate priest will be able to guide you through the annulment process and onward to emotional health as you grow in faith. Remember God loves you with an amazing love. And you are not alone.
