     wedding invitations to ceremony only

We are an older couple planning our wedding. Our children are all grown and we both have grandchildren. We are being married in church and a backyard party after. We only wanted our family to be at the church. How do we word the invitations?

Dear Betty:

For formal and semiformal weddings you will have two invitations; one for the wedding and one for the reception. Send wedding and reception invitations to your family and just the reception invitations to the rest of your guests.

It sounds as if your wedding is informal so handwritten invitations are acceptable and can easily include (or not include) whatever information you like.

Enjoy!
