My husband is currently serving in afgan and after a long 14 months we have decided that our marraige is stronger than ever. And because we were not able to have a wedding 12 years ago we would like to have the full wedding of our dreams with our family and freinds. but of course on a budget. My question is for the reception, is it improper to ask BYOB to keep cost down. We are having a country wedding in a hall that we have to decorate and cook ourselves( no staff at this place) and no way of having a bar set up. I want to go as traditional as possible but because it is a renewing of vows is BYOB acceptable?

Congratulations on your 12 successful years! And, you have plenty to celebrate.

Unfortunately, it is not appropriate to ask your guests to bring the 'booze'. This is in essence a party that you are hosting for yourself, so you should host it. Perhaps you could only serve alcohol that you can afford, no alcohol, or start buying a little here and there to stock up for your event.

I'm not sure if you have a Costco near you. If so, you can buy a case of fairly decent wine for less than $60.

Hopefully other brides or moderators may have some money saving ideas for you also.

I agree with Rebecca; there are many ways you can have a terrifc party on a low budget.

Here is a recipe for a Strawberry Champagne Punch that will be elegant and money saving:

Makes 4 - 6 servings.

1 (12-ounce) can strawberry juice
1 bottle Champagne
Whole strawberries



Freeze single berries (can be strawberries and/or respberries) in ice cube trays filled with water.

In a medium pitcher, combine 3 parts champagne to 1 part strawberry juice. Stir together well. Pour into punch bowl and stir in whole strawberries to suit. Add frozen strawberry "cubes". These will keep the punch chilled while looking elegant. Guests can help themselves or you can serve by the glass. As an alternative, try substituting mango juice for the strawberry juice.
