Hello, a few years ago I was married on paper alone...no ceremony or anything of that nature, just legalities. I then became divorced some time later. I am now wondering if it is possible for me to get married in a catholic church to my catholic fiance. I have been a protestant my entire life but dont mind getting baptized catholic or switching to the catholic faith for her. Thank you I appreciate any responces

Your marriage was not sanctioned by the Catholic Church and therefore not recognized by them. So the good news is that I believe you can, if you convert to Catholicism.

However, the best way is to call your fiance's pastor and find out.

One piece of advice, if he says no (though I don't think they will), check with a couple of more pastors. Don't rely on one pastor. I do personally know folks who were in your situation and married in the Catholic Church. Sometimes it depends on the priest.

I agree with Rev. Suzanne that the Catholic Church will not recongnize your previous marriage so that should not be an impediment. There is more good news --- you will not be required to convert unless you wanted to. The Catholic Church has long recongnized mixed marriages between Catholics and Baptized Christians. Your Catholic finance' will need to reaffirm his faith and promise to share it with his children. Best wishes to you and may you have a blessed life together.
