My good friend is getting married for the 2nd time. On the invitation they requested no gifts be given, but we feel awkward not bringing a check. What would you suggest?

When a person says 'no gifts' they really mean it. However, if you feel as if you need to give something a great option that most would happily accept would be a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. Or, if they are avid readers a gift certificate to a book store would be perfect. Please do not give too much, just a token.

Usually, when a couple is getting married for the second time they do not need the typical gift one would give for a wedding so they will often say they want no gifts. However you may wish to mark the occasion or send a token of your esteem. A donation to a charity in their name is a nice idea. Depending on the charity they may provide a gift card you could insert into a wedding card. Any sort of keepsake such as a wedding album is also a good choice too. Do this only if you want to, not because you feel obligated becuse you have ben invited to an event.

Flowers are always lovely to receive. If your friends have a garden you could give a small tree to plant to remember the wedding day.
