My husband and I are planning to renew our vows for our fifth wedding anniversary November 2005. We were married at the justice of the peace in a 'spur of the moment wedding'. We had just paid for our rings and they were burning a hole in my husband's pocket so we went one day when I got home from class and before he went to work. It was a unique situation. It was all very sweet though because when I asked my husband why we had to go right then he said that he could not stand not to be married to me any longer. We want to have a wedding ceremony this time for family and friends to attend. We have a 4 year old son and my husband wants him to be the best man. I am having trouble with the while renewal ceremony and I am unsure of what to do and what not to do in relation to a first wedding. I want this to be a special event in my life because we did not get the big wedding the first time. I just want some advice on how much is too much for a renewal ceremony in relation to the first wedding. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Tlrunt,

I am in the same boat. Me and my hubby went to the courthouse and now we want a big wedding with family and friends. I am waiting on my response to find out the right things to do.

Good Luck,

In your case, you would be renewing your wedding vows. Please review our page on vow renewal ceremonies and if you have any questions specifically please return and post your questions.

Can you tell us how long ago you married civilly and why you decided to marry this way?

We have been married for 4 and a half years almost. It will be five years in November 2005. But to update everyone, we recently found out that we will have a new addition to our family in September this year. We have decided to postpone our renewal ceremony for a while. We are not sure when the new date will be. Our son and new baby will be a lot to handle without the fuss of a ceremony right now, but eventually we will get there. And it will be just as special as the first time. In a way this new baby has helped us realize how special those vows were the first time we took them, and just how much more special they will be when we take them in front of our 'completed' family. Thank you the help.

Congratulations! I'm sure there will be plenty of time later on for a renewal ceremony and then you'll have one more thing to be thankful for...maybe your tenth anniversary???
