I just recently got engaged. My fiance has been married before, however not in a Catholic church, it was the United Church of Canada, a protestant church. He was divorced through the courts. Now, my question is, can we get married in a Catholic church? if so, does he need to convert or go through a process? I have heard of cases where its not necessary, however this may be a unique case. He is not particulary religious and was never baptized. Please help!!!

You need to check with your parish priest on thhis since some Catholic churches regognize Protestant marriages and might very well require your fiance to get an annulment.

His first marriage is not recognized by the Catholic Church. However, the Catholic Church will definitely require that he be baptized. Many parishes will expect him to convert. The question is: Is he comfortable going through the process?
