My wife and I are going to be celebrating our 10th anniversary on 7/29. I am planning a surprise renewal of vows at roughly 6:00PM at the church we were married in that she will not know about. I do have a few questions on this.
1) I am only having family and a few friends (30 people total), do we have to have a reception? I am also planning to stay at the same place we stayed for our wedding night and if we have a reception it could last a few hours and I still want to have some quality time with my wife.
2) I would like to write special vows, do you have any suggestions.
3) What parts if any about our first ceremony should I try to duplicate?
4) Because this is going to be a surprise can I call the people I want to invite or do I absolutely have to send invitations?
5) I am getting her a mothers ring for the occasion. Is this ok to use in the ring ceremony?
Thanks,
Ross S.

Questions for Wedding Vow Renewal
#2
If you are going to invite a few friends to witness your renewal of vows ceremony it is proper to offer them some sort of refreshments. This does not have to be anything fancy or time consuming. Some finger sandwiches and drinks or coffee and cake (depending on the time of day) would be a nice way to celebrate your anniversary with your friends and family, without sacrificing too much time with your wife.

You can incorporate your vows from your first ceremony or create new ones, it's totally up to you. Incororating the mother's riing onto the renewal ceremony sounds like a great idea. Let us know how you do that.
Since you are having just a few guests it would be all right to call them to invite them.
It sounds like you have most of the ideas planned out already and your wife is very lucky indeed!
Best of luck...
