I am considering having a small private ceremony in my pastor's study with only immediate family, then having a large reception afterward; 100 + guests. Is it rude to invite people to only the reception? I don't want people to get offended.

Is it rude to invite guests to the reception and not the wedding ceremony?

No, since the gift giving portion of the wedding is the ceremony, you don;t have to worry about inviting guests just to the reception. It would be rude the other way round; if you invited guests just to the ceremony (gift expects for ceremony, not reception) and then didn't offer to entertain those guests.
So, although guests usually send gifts if only invited to the reception, please don't expect gifts from them.
Enjoy the wedding day.
