I am divorced. My first marriage was a religious ceremony in the Baptist church as my ex-spouse was Baptist. I have never been baptized although I have practiced Catholicism my entire life. My fiance is Catholic and wants to be married by a Priest in the Catholic Church. Will this be permitted considering my last marriage was in a Baptist church and I am not Catholic?

Congratulations on finding love again. It takes courage to open up your heart after a divorce.

Please talk to a priest. He will be able to advise you once he has all the information he needs. It is not clear what you mean by not being Catholic and yet practicing Catholicism your entire life.

Most likely you will need to have your previous marriage annulled. This can be a valuable learning experience as you discover why your first marriage ended. What you learn can help you avoid making the same mistakes in your new relationship and aid you in letting go of the baggage of pain and anger.

The priest may also suggest going through RCIA and baptism. Without baptism, the Church will not consider your marriage sacramental.

Be prepared to wait a while before setting a wedding date. Receiving an annulment can take six months or even two years.

God bless you and guide you in your decisions.
