My husband and I are thinking of doing a vow renewal ceremony because our first wedding ceremony had a few black clouds hanging over our heads. Because of religious differences some of my family members decided not to attend our first wedding...which was my second marriage and his first. Instead we had many friends in attendance and our wedding party primarily consisted of those friends. After the wedding those so-called friends began to drop off one by one for one reason or another. Since the wedding we have grown much closer to the family members who did not attend our first wedding.
Our first wedding was a low budget fiasco. I wound up doing 85% of the work myself and never felt that it was the affair
our starting our life together deserved. I recently found out I could have had a lovely reception for about the same money without all the exhaustion and feelings of regret.
On top of all that this time around we have decided to hyphenate our last names as I did not take his name when we were first married.
I guess my questions are a.) Would a civil/unspecified spiritual ceremony be appropriate to skirt the religious differences issues? and b.) Would it be proper for us to have a fancier reception than the first wedding given the circumstances?

It might be best for you to read our pages on vow renewals since I think all of your questions are answered there as well as in past posts in this forum. If you still have questions that you feel have not been addressed come back and post them, one at a time, in the appropriate category.

Thank you.
