My husband and I are planning on renewing our vows on our ten year anniversary. When we were married, we never had a "big" wedding. We were married by the mayor at town hall. We now want to be married in Church. I want the "big" wedding I never got. How do I do this? According to the church, this is our first "wedding" because they do not recognize civil ceremonies. I want the big reception, big dress, and yes I want to wear a vail. Will this seem strange to my friends who have only known us as being married?? I have been going to a lot of weddings lately and feel sad that my husband and I did not have that. Please help me to know what is appropriate and what I need to not do.[unsure]

Thanks ;)

I would forgo the veil as per our wedding etiquette page and page on second wedding dresses. Other than that there really aren't too many more "don'ts.

Make an appointment to speak with your priest (I am assuming you are of the catholic faith since you mentioned that your church does not recognize a civil ceremony) regarding the formalities within your church. He will be able to guide you and advise you as far as the rules of your particular faith and parish are concerned.

In the mean time review our pages within the site such as renewing wedding vows and the pages mentioned above. Don't worry too much about what your friends and family have to say. Life's too short to let others rule us. Do what makes you and your husband happy.
