Annulment needed on first marriage

My fiancee and I just got engaged and are trying to figure out if an annulment is necessary from his first marriage, which at first was done just on the civil side. About 8 years later, he and his ex decided to "renew" their vows, and this time they did it in a catholic church. They got divorced jsut 2 years after that.

The question is: Does this vow renewal mean he was married in the catholic church and therefore he needs an anulment from it before he can marry me by the catholic church? Thanks for your help,

Please talk to your priest. He should be able to decipher what is necessary. Since a renewal of vows in a Catholic Church is generally accepted as making the marriage sacramentally binding in the eyes of the Church, this could mean that the long form of annulment is required.

It can take a year or longer for an annulment to come through and it is also possible that an annulment will not be granted, especially since the former marriage vows were renewed.

May God guide and bless you as you seek His will.
