My husband and I were married in Jamaica. It was just he and I. Although it was very romantic - I sort of wish we had family with us. We have been planning to revisit the place we were married for our 5th anniversary only this time, we would like to include my parents, our children and other family and friends who would like to go to Jamaica with us to help us celebrate. We are planning to send out "save the dates" a year ahead of time, so that friends and family would have enough time to make preparations. The vow renewal part of the trip will be a surprise to any guests that would attend until we actually get to Jamaica. I would like the highlight of the celebration to be the trip itself and my husband and I revisiting the place where we said "I do" and reconnecting. And the renewal of vows be the icing on the cake so to speak - short and sweetly stating our own vows to be witnessed by our children and parents most importantly. I'm not really into formal ceremonies. Is this idea in good taste? Is it ok to sponsor such a trip for our 5th anniversary? Also, I would like to wear the dress I was married in for the vow renewal. It is an informal wedding dress, straight, spaghetti straps, white with a short train. Your opinion would be appreciated.

Vow renewal ceremony with guests

Dear Val,
Bravo! It is so refreshing to hear of someone who truly understands what this ceremony is really about. Yes, this is very sweet and appropriate. Since this was your original dress it is proper to wear it again.
Please read about vow renewal etiquette.
