My husband and I have been married going on 3yrs. We want to change out anniversary date due to the fact that on our 1 year anniversary our house burned down, so we did not celebrate. On our second year mark our next door neighbors house burned down and we moved to North Florida - no celebration again. We are coming up on our 3rd year and we are separated. The time apart was good for us. It gave us time to search our souls and find out why we married in the first place. We found we truly love each other and have since the first day we met 14 yrs ago. So seeing how our Original anniversary date is doomed or back luck, (my husband is scared to death of what might happen this year) we want to renew our vows on the day we first met 14 yrs ago. So my questions is... Do we have to divorce first to change our anniversary date? If not, what do we have to do to change the date?
Thank you,
Patti

Dear Patti -
So sorry to hear of your troubles but, then again, pleased that you and your husband are able to work through it.
You can choose to celebrate whatever anniversary date you choose. There are no laws governing this.
Celebrate away!

Thank you for your response. I know we can celebrate whatever anniversary we want, but the date we got married I think is definately doomed! [crazy]

If you feel that way then celebrate another anniversary. For example, my fiance and I celebrate the anniversary of our first date.
