I've gotten engaged this past weekend and I'd like to let all my friends know. My ex is part of a certain circle of friends and since we had an amiable breakup, we don't have a problem seeing each other at social occasions. My question is should I tell her before I announce it to my circle of friends? My minor quandry is that on one hand, I think it might be appropriate to hear it first from me, but on the other I don't want to seem like I'm making a big deal. Just wanted some objective opinions. What do y'all think?

P.S. Forgot to mention, there are no kids involved here.

Dear Ed,

Typically if there are children, you would definitely want to inform her. But, with no children it is your choice. In your case, I would suggest informing her first. After all, you two do socialize in the same circles. It would be better for her to hear it from you than from someone else.

However, this is just my opinion. It must be your choice.

Best wishes,

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for the note. I chose to call her ahead of time. Everything's cool.

Thanks!
Ed

Hello Ed,

That's wonderful. Thank you for telling us. I was wondering.
