My husband and I were married 5 years ago. We got off to a very rocky start after not knowing each other for very long. Since then, we have both grown individualy and as a couple. After doing a marriage study at our church, we have decided to renew our vows. Mind you, our wedding before was 10 min. long, at the JP, with 2 people there that we don't even know anymore. We left the JP office went to work, and had the most disgusting chinese food ever for dinner that night. I am wanting to go all out for this "renewall" ceremony. I am a woman, so of course I am wanting the wedding, the dress, the cake. I could care less about the gifts, but I do want a "real" wedding. Am I wrong for wanting to go all out for this ceremony.

You want to celebrate your love and relationship success so that can never be wrong but how you go about the service is key.

Firstly, you are already married and, sorry but, that ship has sailed. However, you can have a vow renewal service, even a blessing of your marriage in a church if you're religious minded, with a party to follow. The service can be similar to a wedding ceremony but obviously, since you're already married and cannot be married twice without divorcing, the vows you say to one another will be reaffirming the vows you said at your wedding ceremony. We have an entire page on the ceremony for renewing wedding vows so I suggest that page as a must read.

You can choose to have a party following the service so that all of your guests can help to celebrate your marriage. There are many aspects of the wedding reception that can be included here but mostly this will resemble an anniversary type party.

Please review our page on Wedding Vow Renewal Etiquette for more information on the proper way to go about planning your reaffirmation so as not to be viewed negatively.

Congratulations on 5 years of marriage!
