I'm a widow and my boyfriend is a widower we are both in our 40's. We are both grateful that we have found each other and feel that we've both been given a second chance at happiness. We are very excited about starting a new life together but would like to do something small at the wedding to honor the memory of both our deceased spouses. We were thinking about having two simple white candles that were lit before the ceremony when all the others were lit but would like to get other opinions on this and any other ideas. We both lost our spouses over 5 years ago.

Here are some good ways to honor your deceased loved ones without overshadowing the menaing of your day or bringing down the mood.

Place a table near the altar or front of the church. On it, place a Memorial Candle in tribute to your loved ones. Or, place a single rose in a memorial bud vase printed with sentimental words honoring your loved one. Your special keepsake vase can be placed on a mantle or bookcase after the wedding day or can be handed down to your children or family members.

The meaning of the ceremony could be included in your printed wedding programs so that you don't have to make too much emphasis on the loss. Remember, you'll want your wedding day to be mostly about moving forward with your new life together as husband and wife.
