After 15 years of being together as a couple, we have decided to get married. This is the second marriage both of us. We have planned a lovely outdoor ceremony near Las Vegas. When we mentioned it to a couple of friends, they said "We'll be there!". Of course, we are absolutely thrilled to have these very special people there to share the moment with us. However, we were not not expecting anyone to make the effort. It never occurred to either of us to send invitations. We had not even considered sending announcements after the fact, but perhaps it is appropriate. What do you think? Neither of us wants to make our friends or family feel the announcement is a request for a gift. In spite of what I've read, I would feel uncomfortable with a shower or even wedding gifts since this is our second round.

Wedding announcements do not oblige the recipient to send a gift and are not mandatory. You can send them if you wish; it's your choice.

If you're uncomfortable about receiving gifts then you're doing the right thing by eloping but some people may send something to you if they hear about the wedding, so be prepared if this happens.
