Is there anything in the Catholic religion that prohibits a woman from remarrying if she is a widow? I have been told that she cannot under any circumstances.

The vows taken in a Catholic marriage state "until death do us part", so the church recognizes the marriage as ended when one of the couple dies. A widow or widower is free to marry in the Catholic church.

Widows can get remarried. This is very clear and is done all the time. Who ever told you this is misinformed. Best wishes to you and God Bless.
