I am engaged, but we haven't gotten married because he owes a significant amount to the IRS (about $20,000) that he can't possibly repay. Would a prenuptial protect me? I have some money in an IRA and usually get back a tax refund; he doesn't. He's already filed bankruptcy so that's not an option. I'm older and living together upsets my adult child. What can I do?

While your IRA should remain safe after your marriage you should consult with a local attorney to discuss how the IRS will deal with your tax refunds after the marriage. Don't leave something as serious as your future financial well being to chance.
