My husband and I were married in Las Vegas 9 years ago with both our parents there. We were going to renew our vows and have a big wedding with all our family and friends there. Now that we are starting to plan my parents think that there is something mentally wrong with me and that I'm insecure because I want to have a wedding. And to top it all off my mother says it would not be special because we were already married and that we should have done it the first time. The reason we did do it the first time is because she told me we wouldn't make it so don't waste the money. Now that it's almost 10 years she is still saying well wait till 25 years then do it. I'm afarid to do it because what if my family thinks like her and don't come. What if she's right and it's a diaster. Is there a way I can make it special?

Ahh...life is full of "ifs", isn't it. But, we can either choose to worry about each and every "if" or we can listen to our hearts. Trust your instincts. If you and your husband want to renew your vows, do it. Have a beautiful, personal ceremony and a party afterward (this would not be called a wedding so this may aleviate any worries of what others might think). Just call it a renewal of vows ceremony and reception to follow. Please note that this type of event is not considered a gift giving party so please don't expect gifts.

You'll make the ceremony and party special by personalizing your vows as further described on our renewing wedding vows page.
